Blackwater Hostel first opened its doors back in 1999. Since then it has firmly established itself as one of the best hostels on the West Highland Way. Set in the scenic village of Kinlochleven, the hostel is surrounded by Mamore mountains and lies on the banks of the River Leven. It is perfectly situated just 200m from the village centre. With tourist attractions such as the Ice Factor – Europe’s largest indoor climbing wall, right on the doorstep.
The Blackwater Hostel is a great base for outdoor enthusiasts or for a stopover when walking the West Highland Way. If walking is your thing there are numerous routes leaving from the village, ranging from low level to high level. There’s plenty Munro’s nearby to check off the list. Along with famous walks such as the Buachaille Etive Mor, The Lost Valley, Aonach Eagach Ridge, The Pap of Glencoe which are all just a short drive away. For those looking for an adrenaline rush there’s Vertical Descents based just around the corner who offer various watersports and Scotland’s first Via Ferrata. Here you can scale up the side of Grey Mare’s waterfall – Scotland’s third largest waterfall. There’s plenty around to keep you entertained on your trip whether it’s wet or dry!
